I painfully exited a whatsapp group of people I respect today! (ehn now! whats the fuss about it). I got it up to my neck on the insults, blackmail ( emotional, spiritual. relationshipical etc), and side talks , based on my decision to support my GMB in the forthcoming elections. I have received different versions of the Islamization story, “unequally yoked ” sermons, subtly play on words to cause planned reactions etc. But what is the matter sef?
I have seen friends fight because of GMB and GEJ, insults have been traded in the stock markets and the market closing on record sales daily. Annoying propagandish messages and the web 2.0 revolution have made everybody an author of content. If we continue to fight like this before the election, how will we be able to take defeat on either sides. I have tried as much as possible to maintain my stance in the face of the barrage; doing so with great caution and diplomatic soft pedalling ( Although, I have not been reciprocated the gesture); cos early in the beginning of the exchange someone told me ” Elections will come and go, but your words and its effects on people will remain after the elections”. And that is what I want us to put at the back of our minds,as we approach the epicentre of the action.
I see it like, I support Arsenal ( Yes I do, Gunners for life) and my best friend is a Chelsea Fan, so we should kill ourselves, because we are expecting a match?Abegi, the passion with which we discuss this issues is laudable, but we should try and aim it directly at making this nation better. We should make efforts to forge relationships beyond party lines, join hands in developing ideas that will transform this nation, translate our heart cries into issue based campaign, that will have a transformational effect on the nation after the elections.
Our Interest should be Nigeria! irrespective of who wins, the question should be: How do we move Nigeria forward. I am not APC or PDP , I am for Nigeria. However, my intentions for Nigeria will be achieved on these party platforms, hence I support the person in the Party and not necessarily the party. If Jonathan wins the election, I remain a Nigerian with a heart to join in moving the nation forward;if General Buhari wins my passion remains same and my interest is one Nigeria.
Let peace reign along party lines, let us stop trying to over heat the polity, stop dividing Nigeria along political and religious lines ( It will do us no good)….I say no to violence! and I support the candidacy of General Muhammad Buhari( Its an election na, I gats choose and I don choose).
